UK firm Proximity Data Centres has acquired a facility Swindon.

The company said the 89,000 sq ft (8,200 sqm) data center – located in southwest England and now named Proximity Edge7 – provides space for up to 2,000 racks and has 7MW of capacity currently available, with the potential to increase to 14MW.

“Our new Swindon Edge data center offers enterprise, research, content, and cloud service provider organizations a compelling proposition,” said John Hall, managing director of colocation at Proximity Data Centres.

According to Dgtl Infra, the facility is located at 11C Broadmoor Road South and was previously operated by Capgemini as its Merlin Swindon data center.

Proximity currently operates facilities in Bridgend, Nottingham, Rugby, Liverpool, Chester Gates, and Wakefield. The company said expects to have 20 sites available within the next 12 months

“Proximity Edge7 has outstanding environmental and sustainability credentials combined with excellent connectivity in a strategic location,” added Hall. “This makes it ideally suited for accommodating overflow and edge colocation business from the overcrowded data center cluster in Slough as well as offering resilient low latency solutions to research organizations in the vicinity.”
