Regional edge colocation data centre provider Proximity Data Centres has acquired a site in Swindon to expand its localised operations in southwest England.
The 89,000 sq ft facility provides capacity for up to 2000 racks. A total of 7MW power is currently available with potential to increase to 14MW, the company said in statement.
The Tier 3 facility, named Proximity Edge7, is designed to serve businesses along and near to the M4 corridor. This includes the congested data centre conurbations of Slough and West London.
The site, located close to where SilverEdge DC opened an edge data centre last March, is also accessible to the major R&D hub at Harwell which is home to numerous research organisations in biotech, genome and space-tech.

Swindon joins Proximity’s expanding network of interconnected regional edge data centres which includes sites in Bridgend, Nottingham, Rugby, Liverpool, Chester Gates and Wakefield Proximity serving over 1,000 customers from over 134,000 square feet of combined data centre floor and 18MW of IT load.
The company expects to have 20 sites available within the next 12 months, all in proximity to major conurbation areas.
Proximity Data Centres is funded by ICG Longbow Real Estate Capital LLP. Intermediate Capital Group (ICG) manages global funds in excess of €40 billion.
